HydroDog Owners Alex Valado is the HydroDog Franchisee for Redland Bay.  Alex joined the HydroDog team over 5 years ago after working 18 years in various office positions. Alex was sick and tired of her job and desperately wanting a change in career when the "HydroDog Opportunity" came at just the right time.

"At the time, I was a puppy carer and our puppy was being washed and groomed by one of the HydroDog Franchisees. I just kept thinking this would be a perfect business for me. I am a very passionate dog lover and being outdoors working with dogs all day - perfect!"

Since joining the HydroDog team, Alex has worked closely with her Master Franchisee, Paul Mimnaw and extends her experience in business and organization skills with new Franchisees. "After my family, HydroDog is the most exciting venture I've been part of. There is so much to extend on and watching my business grow is very fulfilling. Working with Dogs is the greatest experience to have.

I studied childcare when I was 17 years old and worked in the industry for over 6 years.

In March, 2005, I became my own boss because I was so sick of working for someone else on minimum wage for all of those years.

My partner and I discovered HydroDog while visiting the Pet and Animal Expo in Sydney in support of our dogs' breed.

We looked into other Mobile Dog Wash Franchises and found that HydroDog was the only one for us.

Every day is different, I love being active and a lot of my clients (the four legged ones!) are always happy to see me!

Janie RoseHow did I stumble into HydroDog, an interesting question?

One Saturday morning I saw a program advertising a Mobile Dog Grooming service which looked interesting. As I love dogs, it looked like a good opportunity. I contacted the company and went out on a field trip for the day. It was fun, but the trailer set up was pretty basic, also we had a number of requests from customers to trim the dogs which they would not do. If you cannot offer the full package what's the point?

I still wanted to pursue a business which involved pet care, I checked the yellow pages to see who had the most prominent advertising in Mobile Dog Grooming which was of course, you guessed it. HydroDog!

Upon meeting with the Franchisor, I was smitten! Having had a disastrous experience taking my dog to a salon, I thought, why not? I can do this. I completed the Grooming course at a TAFE college and did my training with the lovely Sarah and the rest is history!

And now to my wife, Monica, who was in retail - cosmetics of all things. I used to come home and delight her with stories about how much fun I was having. Next minute I know, she had given notice and we became a team. Best decision we ever made!

I never really knew what I wanted to do when I grew up and I mucked around in various administration roles for far too long.
Being a mother and wife is my first love and it became very clear that I needed greater flexibility and freedom to choose my hours of work. Plus, I always wanted to be my own boss and have the challenge of running my own business.
I have always loved animals and my brother Steve, who owned his own HydroDog business, introduced me to the wonderful world of HydroDog.  I remember going on a field trip with him and falling in love with grooming.  After much painstaking thought and research, (re-reading the contracts until 4am one morning) my husband and I decided to take the chance.  We have not looked back since that day.
Within 2 years I became responsible for the training of new Franchisees in Victoria and Tasmania and have met the most wonderful customers and colleagues along the way.   This has given me an enormous sense of achievement and a great deal of pride which obviously reflects in the professionalism I provide to my wonderful customers.
We now have a thriving business with too many customers to service and happy customers regularly booking, months in advance.  I am so passionate about what I do and can’t believe everyone in the world hasn’t caught on to this yet!!
